During Prime Minister Mr Andris Berzins' regular meeting with representatives of the government and the leaders of Saeima committees, an agreement was reached on activating efforts in harmonising Latvia's legislation with the European Union's requirements. Mr Berzins and representatives of Saeima committees hold meetings every first or second week of the parliament's sessions in order to evaluate Latvia's progress in harmonising legislation with the EU requirements and agree on further goals, Prime Minister's adviser for Saeima affairs Mr Peteris Elferts told LETA. One-and-a-half sessions of Saeima remain until a new parliament is elected, key tasks are connected with preparation for the European Commission's next progress report. According to Mr Elferts, the most important legislation for Latvia's move to the EU currently include the law on territorial planning, amendments to the Criminal Law, law on public administration, law on State Control, a series of laws on prevention of corruption and others. During the meeting of Prime Minister and Saeima committees' leaders, review of legislation was discussed. The parliament's work must be active and important matters are to be reviewed in the next coming months, the officials concluded.
