NATO foreign ministers agree on the increase of NATO-Georgia and NATO-Ukraine commission activity as a mechanism of support for Euro-Atlantic integration [03 Dec 2008]
On 2 and 3 December the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting took place in Brussels. During the meeting, ministers exchanged views on the prospects for the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia and Ukraine, NATO relations with the Russian Federation and international operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo. There was also a meeting between the Alliance and representatives of Mediterranean Dialogue countries.

On 26 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet with media representatives from Ukraine who have arrived on a visit to Latvia. During the meeting it is planned to talk about Latvia's experience on its course towards Euro-Atlantic integration as well as relations with Russia after accession to the EU and NATO.

Latvia renders assistance to Ukraine and Moldova to overcome consequences of flooding [05 Aug 2008]
On the initiative of the Foreign Ministry, the Cabinet of Ministers today adopted a decision with regard to the rendering of assistance to Ukraine and Moldova to overcome the consequences of flooding. Latvia will provide financial aid of 50,000 euro each. to the governments of Ukraine and Moldova.

Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins has sent a letter to his colleague, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Ogryzko, in relation to the extensive flooding which has affected the western regions of Ukraine.
Press conference on state visit to Ukrain (President's Chancery) [27 Jun 2008]
At the final press conference of his state visit to Ukraine, President Valdis Zatlers said that "the visit made a major contribution to both the political and economic dimensions of Latvian-Ukrainian relations." The President noted the constructive and friendly dialogue that took place between high-ranking officials and the successful business fora organized in Kyiv and Lviv.

Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary of State Edgars Skuja and Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mihails Popovs are participating in the conference Basic Principles for the Settlement of the Conflicts in the Territories of the GUAM States, which is devoted to resolving the current conflicts in the territories of the GUAM states: Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.

From 12 March to 10 April the registration of signatures to initiate a law on "Amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia" will take place.
Foreign Minister expresses firm support for NATO offer of Membership Action Plan to Georgia and Ukraine [06 Mar 2008]
On 6 March Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins attended informal talks of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. Ministers discussed the main issues that will top the agenda of the upcoming NATO Bucharest Summit of 3 to 4 April: further enlargement of the alliance and strengthening of its relations with partner states, as well as the course of NATO-led operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo.
