Documents required for a visa application
If you are a citizen of Ukraine or the Republic of Moldova you need a visa to enter the Republic Latvia. You may submit documents for a visa for the Republic Latvia at the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine.
To receive a visa for the Republic of Latvia, the following documents need to be submitted at the Embassy: - A valid travel document (containing at least two blank pages and with a term of validity that exceeds by at least three months the expiry date of the visa requested);
- A visa application form filled out and signed;
- One photograph (35 mm x 45 mm) - white or light grey background; taken not earlier than three months prior to the application date; without white corner. Children should submit photographs as well;
- A valid health and life insurance policy. The sum of insurance should not be lower than 30000 EUR. Although submission of health insurance policy is not obligatory for the citizens of Ukraine, the Embassy recommends to have it;
- Invitation to visit Latvia approved by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs at the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Latvia. The invitation is valid within 3 months from the date of its approval.
- Confirmation that a person has enough financial resources to enter and stay in the Republic of Latvia. If the inviter covers the related expenses the confirmation is not necessary.
In case of necessity nationals of other countries may apply for visa at the Embassy of Latvia in Ukraine if they prove that stay in Ukraine on the legal basis.
According to the Immigration Law, in order to be able to enter and stay in the Republic of Latvia, a foreign national must prove that he/she has sufficient financial means.
The following amounts are required: - if the party extending the invitation provides the foreign national being invited with accommodation, the estimate for the required financial means is 10 LVL (20 EUR) per day;
- if the foreign national intends to stay at a tourist accommodation, the estimate for the required financial means takes into account the cost of lodging based on the applicable rates, and is at least 30 LVL (60 EUR) per day.
IF THE INVITER DOES NOT INDICATE IN THE INVITATION THAT HE/SHE WILL COVER THE EXPENSES RELATED TO ENTRY AND RESIDENCE OF THE FOREIGNER IN THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA, THE FOREIGNER SHOULD SUBMIT DOCUMENTS CERTIFYING THAT HE/SHE HAS THE NECESSARY FINANCIAL RESOURCES AT HIS/HER DISPOSAL FOR ENTERING AND STAYING IN THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA.
