Membership approved for the Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical, Humanitarian, and Cultural cooperation [01 Feb 2012]

On 31 January, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the membership of the Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical, Humanitarian, and Cultural Cooperation. The commission will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Riga hosts political consultation between experts from Foreign Ministries of Latvia and Russia [14 Dec 2011]

Political consultations between the foreign ministries of Latvia and the Russian Federation on the matters of bilateral relations were held on 14 December in Riga. The Latvian delegation was led by the Head of the Bilateral Relations Directorate, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, and the Russian delegation – by the Director of the 2nd European Department Viktor Tatarintsev.

Foreign Ministers Rinkēvičs and Lavrov note pragmatic atmosphere in Latvia-Russia relations [07 Dec 2011]

On 6 December, during the OSCE Foreign Ministers Meeting in Vilnius, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov. Minister Rinkēvičs expressed satisfaction that, on the whole, the relations between both countries currently develop in a constructive and pragmatic atmosphere. Minister Lavrov also noted the improvement of the climate of the relations between both countries and expressed readiness to continue this positive trend.

Latvia welcomes approval of Russia’s accession terms by Working Party on Russia’s WTO accession [10 Nov 2011]

Latvia welcomes the 10 November decision of the Working Party on the on the Accession of the Russian Federation to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), by which Russia has taken a big step towards its destination of membership in the WTO. Until now, Russia was the largest economy outside this international trade system.
