Latvia's Road to NATO after the Prague Summit

On 21 November 2002, at the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Prague, Latvia was officially invited to join the Alliance.

The invitation marks the beginning of a new phase in LatviaâÀ™s progress towards membership of NATO. This new phase was definitively embarked upon in December along with accession negotiations, and is expected to conclude in May 2004 at the next meeting of Heads of State and Government, when Latvia is to formally become a full-fledged NATO member state.

What steps need to be taken for Latvia to become a full-fledged member of the Alliance?

What is a Timetable for Completition of Reforms and an Accession Protocol?

Answers to these and other questions can be found in this section of the website.
