Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs at NATO Summit reiterates support to Georgia and calls for stronger cooperation with Central Asian countries

On 21-22 May, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs took part in the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government in Chicago. According to Foreign Minister, a major achievement of the Summit is the declaration adopted by the leaders of the Alliance’s member states making a commitment at the highest political level to continue the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission.

Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs and U.S. Assistant State Secretary discuss cooperation in Afghanistan and Central Asia

While attending the NATO Summit in Chicago on 20 May, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Assistant State Secretary Robert Blake. Both officials discussed the developments in Afghanistan and Central Asia, as well as setting out the possibilities for Latvia and the United States to cooperate in stabilising this important region.

Foreign Minister leaves for NATO Summit in Chicago

On 20-21 May Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs will take part in the Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Chicago. As part of the event on 20 May, the NATO foreign ministers will convene for dinner and discuss the Alliance’s relations with partner countries the world over.

Foreign Minister of Latvia congratulates Afghanistan on launching third phase of security transition

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs welcomes the 13 May announcement by Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai on launching the third tranche of security responsibility transfer in the country. “I am certain that a solid foundation has been laid for the transition process to be successful and to proceed in a close interaction between Afghan authorities and the international community.

Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs to discuss matters of NATO Chicago Summit at NATO Foreign and Defence Ministers meeting

On 18-19 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs will take part in the Meeting of NATO Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers in Brussels, Belgium. The ministers from NATO member countries will meet to discuss the current issues and prepare for the Alliance Summit to be held on 20-21 May in Chicago.
