A conference on The Baltic States and the EU Neighbourhood Policy, which took place within the framework of the annual meeting of the Baltic Council as a joint event of the Baltic Assembly and Baltic Council of Ministers was held in Riga on 23 November, 2007 in Riga.* The conference was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia and the Baltic Assembly in close co-operation with the European Commission's Representation in Latvia.
The purpose of this conference was to introduce and discuss the role and experience of the three Baltic states in the implementation of the EU neighbourhood policy in Eastern Europe. At the same time the conference focused on the experience and developments in the context of the implementation of the European Neighbourhood Policy in the Mediterranean region.
The conference provided a diversity of views by bringing together invited participants from governmental, parliamentarian and non-governmental institutions. Several ministers of foreign affairs, members of national parliaments of EU member states and new EU neighbour countries, as well as representatives of the EU institutions and international organisations, well-known policy-makers, think-tanks, and non-governmental organizations were all expected to attend and share their opinions and ideas.

Conclusions from the conference
* The Baltic States co-operation within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy is one of the common priorities of the Baltic Assembly and Baltic Council of Ministers during 2007.
