Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs to meet with Foreign Minister of Macedonia

On 10 February, the Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Macedonia* Nikola Poposki who will be on a working visit in Latvia. 

During the meeting with the Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs, it is envisaged to discuss the bilateral relations of the countries, Macedonia’s integration into the EU and NATO, as well as the EU enlargement issues and the situation in Western Balkans. 

As part of the visit a meeting has been scheduled with representatives from the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee and the Saeima group for interparliamentary cooperation with Macedonia. The Foreign Minister of Macedonia will also deliver a lecture “Macedonia on the Road to NATO and EU: knocking on the open door” at Rīga Stradiņš University.

Macedonia has been an EU candidate country since 17 December 2005. The European Commission has recommended launching the EU accession negotiations with this country. Latvia supports Macedonia’s admission to NATO and the starting of the accession talks with Macedonia in the nearest possible future.
