Foreign Ministry Secretary of State Teikmanis to participate in London conference on cyber security

On 1-2 November, the Secretary of State of the Foreign Ministry Andris Teikmanis will participate in the London Conference on Cyberspace dedicated to virtual environment and cyber security. In appreciation of the broad opportunities offered by the virtual environment and its development, internet experts and cyber security practitioners from more than 60 governments and the private-sector will exchange opinions on the possibilities for utilizing the internet’s full potential, while ensuring its accessibility and a safe use.

Major themes of the conference include: the impact of the online environment on economic growth; social benefits of the internet; cyber crime; safe access to the web and international security, including acceptable norms for how states and individuals should act in cyberspace.

Beside other participants, taking part in the conference are U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Foreign Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt and Co-founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales.
