21 Jul 2011

On 21 July President of Latvia Andris Bērziņš, in an official ceremony in the Riga castle, presented letters of credence to Juris Audariņš, the upcoming Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada.

Juris Audariņš has been with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1992. During the 20 years of his diplomatic career Juris Audariņš has taken various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including those of Consul General to St.Petersburg, Advisor at the Embassy of Latvia in Italy and Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2004 Audariņš has been the Ministry’s Ambassador – at – Large on the matters of diaspora.

The upcoming Ambassador Juris Audariņš in 1993 attended a crisis management training with the USA Department of State and in 1994 an administration course with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden.

Juris Audariņš will replace the present Ambassador of Latvia to Canada Marģers Krams, who, following his service in Canada, has returned to the position of the Ambassador – at – Large at the European Union Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This year we are marking the 20th anniversary of resuming diplomatic relations between Latvia and Canada. The Latvian-Canadian political diplomatic relations are stable and constructive, and the countries are successfully collaborating in international organisations.
