Foreign Ministry commends Latvian soldiers involved in support to Afghanistan’s parliamentary election
The Parliamentary election held in Afghanistan on 18 September, where soldiers of the Latvian National Armed Forces contributed to ensuring a successful election process, can be seen as a step towards democracy and the Afghan people's commitment to take over responsibility for their own country. These are the goals that are supported by Afghanistan’s allies, including Latvia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is grateful to the Latvian soldiers taking part in the International Support Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan. The Ministry emphasises that participation in these operations gives a significant contribution to implementing Latvia’s security and foreign policy interests.
The Foreign Ministry expresses its support to the Latvian National Armed Forces´ soldiers who were wounded last week in the province of Kunar and wishes them a speedy and full recovery.
