Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis: Taking part in procurement for US Armed Forces will facilitate development of Latvian companies
On 13 September, Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis met the Director of the United States Defense Logistics Agency Vice Admiral Alan S. Thompson. The parties discussed the transit of the US military cargoes and the Industry Days, held on 14-17 September.
During the discussion, Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis remarked: "The transit of non-military cargoes through the Latvian ports is an investment into the Allies' endeavours in Afghanistan; it also gives an opportunity to our entrepreneurs to supply the USA Armed Forces with competitive products of good quality. Successful cooperation with the USA could give a positive input to further development of our companies. It can give an opportunity for raise the profile of our companies also in the countries of the Central Asian region." Vice Admiral Alan S. Thompson commended Latvia on its attainments to ensure the transit of non-military cargoes and showed interest in building successful cooperation with Latvian entrepreneurs in the procurement for the needs of the US Armed Forces.
