Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis indicates that the visit to Latvia by Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel bolsters confidence in our economy and its future.

"We hope that the visit will confirm that the European Union is, and will remain united, and that raising welfare and competitiveness in the new EU member states will be the leitmotif of Germany's European policy, so that we may have a one-speed Europe," Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis indicates.

In reply to the question about the German-US relations in the context of this visit, the Foreign Minister notes: "If the relations between the United States and the Russian Federation have an effect on our security, and the Polish-Russian relations – on the evaluation of history, then the relations between Germany and Russia have a central role in an effective utilisation of our region's geographic and economic potential."
