Foreign Minister of Latvia Aivis Ronis invites Germany to renew active involvement in Latvia's economy [16 Jul 2010] |

On 15 July, Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis had a meeting with the Minister of State of the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, member of the Bundestag Werner Hoyer who is on a working visit in Latvia. During the discussion, the parties reviewed bilateral political and economic co-operation, as well as current matters on the international agenda.
Foreign Minister Ronis noted excellent relations between both countries and emphasised that "Latvia feels strong political solidarity from Germany's side. At the same time, in the field of economic co-operation, we encourage German entrepreneurs towards a more dynamic involvement in Latvia and in the Baltic states region." Werner Hoyer, Minister of State of the German Foreign Office stressed that Latvia is a model for countries implementing in-depth structural reforms. The ministers shared the opinion that co-operation among the countries should be expanded within the framework of the EU-Russia economic and modernisation dialogue. With reference to his recent visit to Uzbekistan, Foreign Minister Ronis highlighted the significant role of the Central Asian countries in the renewal process of Afghanistan. | |||||
