Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to introduce his vision on foreign policy of Latvia and common foreign policy for Europe [26 Jan 2010]

On 27 January, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will present his academic report entitled "Foreign policy of Latvia and a common foreign policy for Europe" at the opening of the 68th Research Conference of the University of Latvia. This annual conference is an event encompassing various fields of arts and sciences, and takes place from the end of January to May.

The presentation by Minister Riekstins will be followed by the lecture "The Lisbon earthquake" by Deputy of the Saeima, Kārlis Sadurskis, and by the report "The national planning system: the current situation and eventual progress" by Prof. Edvins Karnitis, Prof. Janis Bicevskis and Doc. Girts Karnitis.

The conference is designed to include five plenary sessions and 143 section meetings. During a series of events, 1 454 reports will be delivered covering a broad range of subjects in biology, geography, physics, chemistry, mathematics, astronomy, sociology, education, philology, and others. The concluding event will be the meeting of the education management section on 6 May this year.

The annual research conference of the University of Latvia is held with the aim of creating a platform for the exchange of research findings, ideas and opinions between researchers, lecturers and students, which is an integral part of academic activity. The conferences have been organised since 1945.
