Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to meet with Foreign Minister of Hungary

On 14 January, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins will meet with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Dr. Peter Balazs, who is on a working visit to Latvia.  

During the meeting, the parties intend to discuss bilateral relations between Latvia and Hungary, including economic co-operation, launching flights from Riga by a low price airline WizzAir, opportunities for Latvian language studies at Hungarian universities, and other issues.  The ministers will also review topicalities of regional co-operation in the format of the Baltic and the Visegrad countries (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia).

Other topics for the discussion are EU's institutional issues in context of the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, including the establishment of the European External Action Service; energy security, relations with Russia, the Eastern Partnership, the EU enlargement process and transatlantic relations.

As part of the visit, the Foreign Minister of Hungary is scheduled to meet with President Valdis Zatlers and the Speaker of the Saeima Gundars Daudze.
