On 28 January in Minsk, parties signed an Agreement of Government of the Republic of Latvia, Government of the Republic of Belarus and Government of the Russian Federation on defining the point of intersection of borders of the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation (the Agreement).

On the Latvian side, the Agreement was signed by the Ambassador at Large of the Foreign Ministry, Ints Upmacis, on the Belarusian side – by the Chairman of the State Committee of Border Forces of Belarus, Igor Rachkovskiy (Игорь Рачковский), and on the Russian side – by the Ambassador at Large of the Foreign Ministry, Aleksey Obukhov (Алексей Обухов).

The Agreements determines that the intersection point for the borders of the three states lies at the point of intersection of the centre lines of the river Zilupe and its tributary the Neverica. The Agreement also prescribes that the parties set up a joint commission for establishing precise location of the border intersection point, and marking it in nature.

The Agreement comes into force on the 30th day after the parties have informed each other about the fulfilment of the required internal procedures.

The triple border meeting point determined by the Agreement is the last stage in the demarcation of the Latvian-Belarusian border and the starting point for the  process of demarcation of the Latvian-Russian border.
