On 18 February in Vilnius, the Nordic Council of Ministers held a conference of Nordic ministers for development and Baltic foreign ministers, where Latvia was represented by the Foreign Ministry Secretary of State, Andris Teikmanis. The participants exchanged opinions on the perspective for Baltic-Nordic co-operation, the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and the situation in Belarus. Representatives of the Baltic and Nordic countries met with President of Lithuania, Dalia Gribauskaite, and visited the European Humanitarian University (EHU). The EHU was established in 1992 in Minsk as a private school, and was closed in 2004 by the decree of the Belarusian authorities. Due to financial support from Lithuania, the European Commission, a number of European countries, the US and various other funds, the EHU resumed its work in Vilnius and received an official status of a Lithuanian higher school in 2006.
