Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis, and the Foreign Minister of Iceland, Össur Skarphéðinsson, during their bilateral meeting on 27 August, were of the same mind that Latvia and Iceland is linked by ties of solidarity and close practical co-operation. "Iceland was the first country which recognised Latvia's independence in 1991, but Latvia, for its part, has voiced consistent support to Iceland's integration into the European Union; our relations are based on mutual solidarity and responsibility," Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis emphasised. The Foreign Minister of Iceland expressed gratitude to Latvia for its support and friendly relations between both countries. | |||||
