Latvian and Belarusian foreign ministers intend to focus on economic co-operation [23 Aug 2010]

On 23 August, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Sergey Martinov is on a working visit in Latvia and meets with the Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis, the Minister of Transport Kaspars Gerhards, President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis. The Foreign Minister of Belarus will also visit the Freeport of Riga Administration.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers of both countries are planning to discuss the current bilateral cooperation topics, with a particular focus on dynamising the economic relations between Latvia and Belarus in transit and goods transportation sector, and industrial production. The foreign ministers will also talk about the topicalities of the EU-Belarus relations and other current bilateral and international developments.

During the visit, the foreign Ministers of Latvia and Belarus will sign The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on facilitating mutual journeys of border residents of the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Belarus which provides procedures for the facilitation of issuing multilateral free border crossing permits, also to residents of Daugavpils, for the purpose of visiting relatives, burial places, participation in local cultural and religious events, etc.

A previous visit by Belarusian Foreign Minister Martinov to Latvia took place on 22 April 2009.
