After receiving an invitation from the Georgian minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador-at-large and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Māris Riekstiņš, will visit Georgia from 16 to 18 August. The goal of the visit is to analyse the political and security situation in the region, and to assess further development. Riekstiņš is planned to meet with various Georgian officials, including Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze.

“Two years have passed since the military conflict between Georgia and Russia occurred, but we have not seen significant progress in the regulation of the situation. The European Union and NATO have consistently advocated for Georgian territorial integrity. At the same time it is important to determine Georgia’s next steps, so that with the active participation of the international community, we can create peace and stability to secure the entire region,” indicated Minister of Foreign Affairs Aivis Ronis.

Respectively, on 29 and 30 August, Ambassador and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Artis Pabriks will represent Minister of Foreign Affairs Avis Ronis at the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. For four years, the forum has brought together high-level politicians, academics, business community and media representatives from various world regions, as well as officials from international organizations. This year at the Bled Forum, the discussion will be focused on the key challenges of the next decade, including energy and economic renewal. The forum will also host an exchange of views about the EU’s role in a polarised world. In 2008, then-prime minister, Ivars Godmanis, attended the Bled Strategic Forum.

As previously announced, Ambassador-at-large and former Minister of Foreign Affairs George Andrejevs represented Minister of Foreign Affairs Avis Ronis at the High-Level Democracy Meeting in Krakow, Poland from 2 to 4 July.
