Latvian President presents letters of credence to Latvia’s new ambassador to the Czech Republic [05 Aug 2010]

On 4 August, Latvian President Valdis Zatlers presented letters of credence to Kaspars Ozoliņš, Latvia’s new ambassador to the Czech Republic. Currently Kaspars Ozoliņš is the director of the Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kaspars Ozoliņš started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994 as the head specialist of the International Organization Department. During his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has led the Security Policy Division, as well as the Russia and CIS Countries Division, he has been First Secretary at the Latvian Embassy in Sweden, and worked as Counsellor at the Latvian Embassy in the United States. From 2002 to 2004, Kaspars Ozoliņš was the Latvian government’s authorized representative for the tripartite Latvia – Russia – OSCE commission in accordance with the Latvia - Russia agreement on Russian military pensioners' social protection.

Latvian and Czech cooperation is based on shared values and foreign policy goals, which assure constructive bilateral cooperation and a close relationship in the EU, NATO and other international organizations. Bilateral contacts from both countries cover a diverse range of sectors, where the most successful cooperation has been in educational and cultural fields. Also significant is the cooperation of both countries in the defence sphere. Latvia is interested in expanding its commercial and economic cooperation with the Czech Republic.
