On 2 July, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins met with the Foreign Minister of Georgia, H.E. Grigol Vashadze who was on an official visit to Latvia. During the meeting, Foreign Ministers of Latvia and Georgia reviewed the current issues of bilateral co-operation, topicalities of the EU-Georgia and NATO-Georgia co-operation, the security situation in Georgia's separatist regions, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, including the results of the current round of the Geneva talks concluded on 1 July, as well as other important bilateral and international topics.
On 2 July, the Head of the Foreign Ministry Directorate, Ambassador Eduards Stiprais contacted the Ambassador of Iran in Stockholm, Rasoul Eslami, in order to inform him that Latvia had closely followed the presidential election in the Islamic Republic of Iran on 12 June.
On 9 July, the NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will arrive on a farewell visit to Latvia. During his visit, NATO's Secretary General will meet with the Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins and the Defence Minister Imants Liegis.
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins has sent a letter of congratulations to the United States Secretary of State, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, on the occasion of the U.S. Independence Day.

On 15 July, in the conclusion of his working visit to the USA, Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins met with James Jones, National Security Advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama, and Michael McFaul, special assistant to the President for national security affairs and senior director for Russian and Eurasian affairs at the National Security Council.
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins welcomes the decision by the Parliament of Iceland to submit an application for the EU membership and expresses Latvia's readiness to share its experience of Eurointegration and accession negotiations. Latvia supports the submission of Iceland's application for consideration to the European Commission as well as a speedy commencement of accession negotiations.

On 29 July in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on co-operation in the economic, research and technological, humanitarian and cultural field will convene for its third meeting, as agreed on 25 June in St. Petersburg by co-chairmen of the IGC – the Minister of Economy of Latvia, Artis Kampars, and the Minister of Transport of Russia, Igor Levitin.

On 29 July, bilateral consultations between Latvia and Lithuania were held in Riga. On the Lithuanian side, the event was attended by the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Asta Skaisgiryte-Liauskiene. On the Latvian side the discussion partners were the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Teikmanis, the Head of the EU Directorate, Ilze Juhansone and the Head of the Directorate of Economic Policy and Co-operation, Maija Manika.
On 29 July, the third meeting of the Latvia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) was concluded, after reviewing a number of live issues in the field of economics, transport and transit, displaced heritage values, and launching the work of the Latvia and Russia Joint Demarcation Commission.
On 31 July at 12 a.m., in the lobby of the Foreign Ministry building, the touring exhibition The Baltic Way that moved the world will be opened. Until 25 August, the exhibition will be displayed in Riga but at the end of the month it will move to Paris, to be presented at the events organised by the Senate of France and the Embassies of the Baltic states, as well as in Le Pont Neuf art gallery. After that, it will be shown in London and Stockholm. The exhibition has been prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in association with photographer Imants Znotiņš.
The Foreign Ministry Secretary of State, Andris Teikmanis, at the opening of the touring exhibition The Baltic Way that moved the world in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 31 July, highlighted the significance of the Baltic Way campaign of 23 August 1989. Mr Teikmanis noted that the Baltic Way linked two million people who joined hands to form a human chain through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, thus demonstrating their invincible determination to reestablish independence.
