Foreign Minister Riekstins to meet with the Foreign Minister of Sweden [04 Feb 2009]

On 5 February, in response to an invitation expressed by Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Carl Bildt will make a visit to Latvia.

The ministers plan to discuss issues of bilateral relations, Baltic-Nordic state co-operation, including assistance for the stabilisation of the economy in the light of the global financial crisis, as well as current events in the EU in relation to Sweden's preparations for presidency of the EU in the second half of 2009. Minister Riekstins and the Foreign Minister of Sweden will also review the situation in the Middle East, and the involvement of the international community in seeking a resolution to the conflict.

Mr Carl Bildt has held the office of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden since October 2006.
