16 Latvian representatives will participate in observation of Georgian presidential elections

On 5 January, early presidential elections will be held in Georgia, the observers of which will include 16 representatives from Latvia.

The Saeima has delegated six short-term observers, including five MP's, who represent the European Affairs Committee, the Latvian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Latvian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the Saeima group for co-operation with the Parliament of Georgia. The Foreign Ministry has assigned five short-term observers and one long-term observer, who commenced work already on 10 December 2007.

At the invitation of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, Latvia will be represented in the observation of the Georgian presidential elections by three experts from the Central Election Commission of Latvia headed by its Chairman, Arnis Cimdars. In addition to those mentioned, one short-term observer from Latvia is included in the delegation from the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission).
