Russia renews Latvian fish producer's export rights

25 Jan 2008

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia regards with approbation the progress which has been achieved for a successful resolution to problems associated with the export of Latvian fish products to Russia. The renewal of export permits to the Latvian companies Gamma A and Licis-93 has been positively received.

Is is also noted with approval that the companies Karavela and PK Invest have been awarded permits for export to Russia. At the same time, the Ministry notes that it is essential to draw up stable and predictable regulations for the export of fish products to Russia. Likewise, both sides need to continue to work out a solution to the problem of differing requirements in the EU and in Russia regarding benzopyrene levels.

Through the good offices of the Latvian-Russian inter-governmental commission, as well as other forms of international co-operation, the relevant institutions of both countries must continue to work on the questions of export documentation for Russia, and to agree on a concrete timeframe for the resolution of these issues by the Russian authorities.
