Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins to discuss energy issues with Andris Piebalgs
A meeting is to take place on Wednesday 9 January between Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins and Andris Piebalgs, the European Commissioner for Energy.
According to the Foreign Minister: "Energy has become a crucial issue in the future advancement of our state. Moreover, at a time when a common EU energy policy, regional projects, and the national energy strategy are being developed, it has become an issue high on the foreign policy agenda".
At the meeting, it is planned to discuss current topics related to the Commission's proposals for the common EU energy policy and the strategic advancement of the energy sector in the Baltic region. The Minister also intends to discuss increasing the total volume of renewable resources in the energy balance of Latvia.
Particular attention will be paid to Latvia's participation in regional energy projects.
Energy is currently one of the key issues for Latvia, the Baltic states, and the EU.
