On 1-2 October Minister for Foreign Affairs Māris Riekstiņš will participate in a meeting of foreign ministers of the Baltic and Benelux states ("3+3") in Estonia. This will be the second "3+3" encounter at the level of foreign ministers aimed at continuing co-operation between Baltic and Benelux states at regional and EU level.
During the meeting, the ministers will discuss current events in international policy, including the developments in Georgia, the further progress of the Treaty of Lisbon, energy policy issues, and the European Neighbourhood Policy.
The first "3+3" foreign minister meeting took place at the initiative of Latvia on 2-3 October 2007 in Jūrmala, where the ministers debated the co-operation between large and small Member States and their role within the EU.
