On 20-21 September, the Third Forum of the Latvian - Lithuanian Forum took place in Rezekne. As part of the Forum, a book by Zenonas Butkus "The Idea and Practice of the Baltic States Unity from 1918 to 1940" and a collection of Latvian and Lithuanian poetry compiled by Dace Markus and Daiga Joma were presented. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented in the Forum by Parliamentary Secretary Eriks Zunda.
On 21 September, at the opening of the Congress, a joint statement by President Valdis Zatlers of Latvia and President Valdas Adamkus of Lithuania was read out, highlighting the common heritage and the unique Baltic identity of Latvians and Lithuanians, which allows them to occupy a distinguished place in modern Europe and in the world.
The Latvian-Lithuanian Forum traditionally takes place in September, at the time when the Baltic Unity Day is being marked.
