On 3 June, a conference "The Latvian Language in the European Union – Multilingualism in Practice" devoted to topical issues of translation of EU legislation and terminology will be held in Riga.

The conference is being organised by the Translation and Terminology Centre, in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission Representation in Latvia. The conference will be opened by Leonard Orban, EC Commissioner for Multilingualism and Tatjana Koke, Minister of Education and Science of Latvia.

The representatives invited from the EU translation services, experts from Latvian institutions, linguists, teachers and students will review the results of the successful co-operation to date and will identify opportunities for the advancement of such co-operation, with the aim of upgrading the quality of EU documents in the Latvian language and of jointly developing a unified and well considered terminology relating to EU issues.

The Latvian language is one of the official EU languages, and the EU translation services provide translations of EU documents into Latvian.
