Foreign Minister on working visit to Turkey

First Latvian language and literature lectorate opened in Prague
On 3 October, Latvian Ambassador Argita Daudze opened the first Latvian language and literature lectorate at the Faculty of Philosophy and Art at Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic, and emphasised that this event will be the acknowledgement of the previous contribution by the Prague's Charles University to Latvian language teaching and will confirm that Latvia is ready to pay more attention to Latvian language learning opportunities in foreign countries thus providing a contribution to a positive image of Latvia in the world.
Artis Pabriks discusses bi-lateral co-operation with President of Turkey
Concluding his working visit on 5 October, Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks met with President Abdullah Gul of Turkey. The minister congratulated his former colleague on the occasion of being elected President of Turkey. Minister Pabriks also extended to him the invitation by President Valdis Zatlers to visit Latvia, which President Gul accepted. Minister Pabriks also met with Ali Babacan, Foreign Minister of Turkey.

Luxembourg to open labour market for citizens of new EU member states
From 1 November 2007, Luxembourg will open its labour market for citizens of those EU member states which joined the European Union on 1 May 2004. According to the letter from Nicolas Schmit, Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Luxembourg, to Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks, the decision on lifting labour movement restrictions was made by the Government of Luxembourg on 3 October of this year.

Latvia provides drought relief assistance to Moldova
Latvia will provide financial relief to Moldova for the amount of 35,000 LVL in order to lessen the consequences of a prolonged drought. The decision was taken by the Cabinet of Ministers following a proposal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In relation to the Latvian presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008, the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday 30 October received the Foreign Ministry informative report On Latvian Presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea States from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008.
Touring project "Balticness" to be opened
At 8 pm on 4 November, the Rock Cafe in Tallinn will be the venue for a jazz concert and a video performance to be presented by Riga Groove Electro, Deniss Paskevics, Villu Veski and Sofia Rubina. This concert will open the Balticness project - one of the most significant events of Latvia's presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).

Political consultations between the Latvian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministries will take place in Baku on 1 November. From Latvia, Edgars Skuja, the Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary of State, will chair the consultations, from Azerbaijan – Khalaf Khalafov, the Deputy Foreign Minister.
