From 20-23 October 2006, the Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia (LELB), Janis Vanags, made his first official visit to Finland. As part of the visit, he met with the Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, Jukka Paarma, the Bishop of Helsinki, Eero Huovinen, and also visited the city of Loppi and the Faculty of Theology at the University of Helsinki.

On 21 October, at the Latvian Embassy in Helsinki, the Latvian Ambassador to Finland, Einars Semanis, hosted an official reception on the occasion of the archbishop's visit. The event was also attended by the Bishop of Helsinki and other organizers of the visit.
