Embassy hosts reception in Israel to honour Latvian national holiday [15 Nov 2006] |

On 16 November 2006, at the Israel Hall of the Hotel and Convention Centre Dan Panorama Tel Aviv, the Latvian Ambassador to Israel, Karlis Eihenbaums, will host an official reception to honour the 88th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia. Representatives from Israel's government and its ministries, members of the Knesset (Parliament of Israel), foreign ambassadors and diplomats in Tel Aviv, recognized public, art and culture representatives, businessmen, members of the Latvian Jewish Society – the Latvian and Estonian Jewish Association in Israel, local and foreign journalists, as well as recognized municipal and academic representatives have been invited to attend the reception. On behalf of the Israeli government, the guests will be addressed by honorary guest Mr Shimon Peres, Israel's leading politician, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and Vice Prime Minister of Israel. The event will be concluded with the Latvian anthem Dievs, sveti Latviju (God, Bless Latvia) in Latvian and the Israeli anthem Hatikvah (The Hope) in Hebrew performed by the Choir of the American International School in Israel. The young artists will be presented with a cake coated with the colours of the red-white-red Latvian flag. The Latvian Embassy has also received congratulations on the upcoming national holiday from Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. (end of text) | |||||
