Reception held to mark launching of Stockholm - Riga ferry service

On 7 April 2006, the Latvian Ambassador to Sweden, Elita Kuzma, together with Christel Wiman, Director General, Ports of Stockholm, and Toivo Ninnas, Chairman of the AS Tallink Grupp Supervisory Board, will host a reception for Swedish officials, tourism operators, businessmen, and representatives of non-governmental organisations and members of the public, to mark the ceremonial opening of the Stockholm - Riga ferry service.

The revival of the ferry service between both capital cities will facilitate cooperation between Latvian and Swedish businessmen and the development of tourism, thereby increasing the number of Swedish tourists visiting Latvia. Among the first to benefit from the new Stockholm - Riga ferry service will be Swedish ice-hockey fans who will travel to Riga in May to attend the 2006 World Ice Hockey Championships.

Ambassador Kuzma will be among the passengers on the maiden voyage on the revived Stockholm – Riga route.
