Delegation of the Constitutional Court of Latvia visits Germany [13 May 2004] |

In response to an invitation by the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht), a delegation of the Constitutional Court of Latvia (Satversmes tiesa) consisting of the Deputy Chairman of the Court, Dr. Romans Apsitis, and judges Ilma Cepane and Juris Jelagins are on a visit to Karlsruhe from May 10 to May 13. Upon the invitation by the Chairman of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, Prof. Dr. Jans Jürgen Papier, Latvia's Ambassador to Germany, Martins Virsis, also participated in the talks on May 12. During talks with Prof. Dr. Jans Jürgen Papier, the Latvian delegation discussed practices of court judgements in relation to the equality of all human beings before the law and the courts (Article 91 of the Constitution of Latvia (Satversme); Grundgesetz, §1), differences in the structure of constitutional claims, and different experiences of both countries in reviewing these claims. | |||||
