The Minister of Foreign Affairs has a meeting with the U.S. National Defence University teaching staff and representatives [16 Aug 2001]

On 16 August 2001 the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Indulis Berzins had a meeting with the U.S. National Defence University teaching staff and representatives who have arrived to Latvia to learn about the defence system of Latvia.

During the meeting Latvia's foreign policy priorities âÀ“ integration into the European Union, course towards NATO and relations with neighbouring countries were discussed. Mr Berzins stressed the determination of Latvia to continue actively the EU integration process and Latvia's course towards NATO in order to receive positive decisions for Latvia in 2002. Discussing development of the relations with neighbouring countries, including Russia, Mr Berzins noted that Latvia has an approach of the development of constructive and positive relations with Russia. The U.S. representatives highly evaluated Latvia's accomplishments in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as expressed appreciation for the reached co-operation level among the Baltic States in the sphere of defence. The U.S. representatives expressed an opinion that in the future visits to the Baltic States could become a regular part of the curriculum of the University.
