Agreement between Latvia and Iceland on Co-operation in the Field of Tourism signed
On 9 October 2000 Mr. Indulis Berzins, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, and Mr. Kornelius Sigmundsson, Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland to Latvia signed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Iceland on Co-operation in the Field of Tourism.
During the meeting that took place after signing the Agreement Mr. Berzins pointed out that "this is a new sign in the co-operation between Latvia and Iceland". The officials also emphasised the successful co-operation of the eight Baltic and Nordic countries and discussed the meeting of Baltic and Nordic co-operation ministers to be held today and tomorrow in Riga. It was also noted that governments could promote activities of their entrepreneurs by help of interstate agreements. The agreement signed today is aimed at promoting activities in the field of tourism.
The Ambassador of Iceland on behalf of his country expressed the support to Latvia's participation in the NATO and integration into the EU. He also positively evaluated co-operation between Iceland and Latvia in the framework of the United Nations.
