The Minister of Foreign Affairs meets the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee  []

On 29th August, Mr. Indulis Berzins, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia met Dr. Michael Haltzel, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs acquainted Dr. Haltzel with Latvia's foreign policy priorities: integration into the European Union and NATO. Mr. Berzins described also the ongoing process of accession negotiations between Latvia and the EU and the efforts towards the integration into NATO. The parties discussed the bilateral economic and military co-operation, and touched upon the issue of the US financial assistance to the military field in the Baltic States.

Both officials discussed the fulfilment of the criteria of Membership Action Plan. Dr. Haltzel noted that the US carefully followed the performance within the Membership Action Plan and the progress achieved by the candidate countries and emphasised the importance of the awareness of shared values within the process of integration into NATO.
