After congratulating the ambassador on his new position, President Zatlers expressed the hope that while Mr Eslami is in office, the bilateral relationship between Latvia and Iran will become closer and more successful. The President particularly pointed to the possibility of co-operation in the chemicals industry. Speaking of international issues, President Zatlers welcomed the initiative of Great Britain, France and Germany to support the decision of the United States on launching a new dialogue with Iran. He called on Iran to respond to this international offer, particularly in terms of ensuring the transparency of the country's nuclear programme. Rasoul Eslami was born in 1955 in Teheran, where he earned a master's degree in mathematics. Later he studied personnel management at the Iranian National Administrative Education Centre. Ambassador Eslami has been in politics since 1983 as a senior expert at the Iranian Foreign Ministry and, later, as ambassador to Kazakhstan (1922-1966) and Thailand (2000-2004). In 2008, he became Iran's ambassador to Sweden. | |||||
