Otgon Dambiinyam, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary for Mongolia, arrived at the Rīga Castle today for an accreditation visit with Latvian President Valdis Zatlers.

The President congratulated the envoy on his accreditation and his new job, adding that he believes that there will be successful development of relations between the two countries in future. The ambassador emphasised the fact that a previously stated invitation for President Zatlers to visit Mongolia remains in effect.

During the conversation with the Mongolian ambassador, President Zatlers noted that potential for economic co-operation between the two countries has not yet been put to full use, but there are good prerequisites for adding to the not very active relationship which exists at this time. The President suggested that economic co-operation is possible in areas such as telecommunications, the food industry, machinery building, rail transport and logistics centres.

During the discussion, the two officials also exchanged views on the financial and economic crisis which is prevailing at this time and the way in which it has affected economic development in both countries.

Ambassador Dambiinyam resides in Warsaw and has been accredited as a non-resident ambassador to all three Baltic States, as well as Ukraine. He was accredited in Poland in April 2008. Prior to that, Ambassador Dambiinyam headed the Protocol Department of the Mongolian Foreign Ministry and was posted to embassies in Egypt, China and Afghanistan.
