Latvia's President Valdis Zatlers has sent his congratulations to the newly elected president of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite. The Lithuanian people have chosen her to be their President for the next five years.
In his letter, President Zatlers encouraged Ms Grybauskaite to pursue and defend the interests of the Lithuanian state with passion, stating his hope that she will have the strength and energy to head her country at times of success, as well as difficulty.
Making note of the good relationship which exists between Latvia and Lithuania, the President emphasised: "I hope that under your leadership, too, there will be a continuance in outstanding co-operation not just between both countries, but also between their presidents."
