Today, on March 27, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Konstantin Korkelia, Ambassador of Georgia to Latvia, during his introductory visit.
The Prime Minister and the Ambassador discussed the topical matters of Latvia and Georgia, economic cooperation and current political issues.
The Prime Minister stressed that Latvia develops relations with Georgia on the basis of bilateral cooperation principles and the status of Latvia as the Member State of the EU and NATO. Both officials described cooperation as friendly and constructive. The Prime Minister noted that economic cooperation must certainly be activated, and it is the basis of any stable and developed relations.
The Ambassador of Georgia expressed his contentment with the intensive political dialogue between Latvia and Georgia, and acknowledged Latvia's support in its reform process. The Latvian Prime Minister highlighted that Georgia is one of the priority countries of Latvia as to the European Neighbourhood Policy, as well as in the context of Latvia's development cooperation policy.
Both officials positively acknowledged the increasing tourism flow between both countries, as well as activation of cooperation in the spheres of culture and education.
K.Korkelia assumed his post as Ambassador to Latvia in February 2008 with his residence in Rīga.
