The President of Latvia presented credentials to three ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia

When presenting credentials to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Moldova and Ukraine Atis Sjanitis the President stressed that Latvia is interested in promoting the economic co-operation with Ukraine and indicated that although during recent years the economic co-operation has become more active all potential has not yet been exhausted. The President informed Atis Sjanitis that he follows the internal policy processes in Ukraine and expressed the hope that the positively started reform road will also be continued after the elections expected in September.

Concerning the relations between Latvia and Moldova the President of Latvia stressed that Moldova has to be kept as a priority of Latvia within the EU neighbourhood policy and co-operation development. The many co-operation development projects that have been approved demonstrate the interest of Latvia in the development of Moldova and the Ambassador of Latvia to Moldova will also take care of the constructiveness and succession of the co-operation in future, Sjanitis pointed out.

The President of Latvia also presented credentials to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Turkmenistan Igors Apokins. The President pointed out that Latvia is interested in developing the economic co-operation with the countries of Central Asia and appreciated the fact that along with presenting these credentials Latvia will now have diplomatic representations in all five countries of the region.

Credentials were also presented to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Canada Margers Krams. During the meeting with the Ambassador the President indicated that Canada has been and will continue to be a significant partner of Latvia in the Transatlantic dialogue. However, concerning the bilateral relations between the countries, Valdis Zatlers pointed out the interest of Latvia in promoting the economic co-operation and introduction of a visa-free regime.
