Legislative co-operation among Latvia, Sweden and Moldova brings results

Today in the framework of the state visit to Moldova the President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga met the Speaker of the Moldova Parliament Marian Lupa and the heads of the parliamentarian commissions to discuss current developments in the interparliamentary co-operation between Latvia and Moldova.

The President welcomed the choice of Moldova to integrate in the European structures and stressed the important role that has to be played by the parliament in the legislative issues in the process. She said that reforms are investments in the country's future. The President pointed out that the people will benefit out of the reforms and the development of all the Europe will benefit from the successful implementation of the reforms. Marian Lupa was pleased with the prolific co-operation project among Latvia, Sweden and Moldova where Moldova is taking over the experience of harmonizing legislation. When inviting the Speaker of the Parliament of Latvia to visit Moldova, Marian Lupa said that the recent experience of Latvia would be particularly important also because Latvia had covered the road not long ago.

Marian Lupu thanked Latvia for understanding of the situation in eastern Dnestr region and supporting the territorial integrity of Moldova.
