Latvia's Sapronenko takes silver medal in Athens
Gymnast Jevgenijs Sapronenko earned the silver medal for Latvia in the men's vault at the Summer Olympic Games on 23 August.
This was Latvia's first medal at the Athens games, and the second one in gymnastics in its history. Igors Vihrovs took home the gold in 2000 in Sydney in the floor exercise event.
Gold in the vault went to Gervasio Deferr from Spain, who scored an average 9.737 points. After two attempts, Sapronenko had a 9.706 total. Romania's Marian Dragulesku was third with 9.612 points.
