Documents required for a visa applications of a family member of EU/EEA national

Citizens of third countries who are married to EU/EEA national and are traveling together or joining spouse in Latvia have to submit following documents:

  • Passport with a period of validity extending at least three month after the intended date of departure from Latvia or other Member State, containing at least two blank pages, and issued within the previous ten years.
  • Visa application form completed and signed by the applicant.
  • 1 colour photo (35mmx45mm).
  • Residence permit or long term visa issued in the United Kingdom or Garda Immigration card issued in Ireland valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area – original or notary verified copy.
  • Marriage certificate – original or notary verified copy.
    If the Marriage certificate is not issued in the EU or EEA Member State or Swiss Confederation, it needs to be legalised.
  • Spouse’s passport – original or notary verified copy.
  • Approval that you are travelling together or joining your spouse in Latvia (tickets or written approval by spouse).
  • No visa application fee is required and you do not require to submit travel medical insurance.

Please note that Citizens of Latvia have to inform Authorities of Latvia regarding their marriage.


If you hold an EEA Family member residence permit with an endorsement Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA national or A8 national (see the sample below) or previous type ink-stamp issued in the United Kingdom or 4EUFam issued in Ireland

AND if you are travelling together with your spouse or joining her in Latvia or other Schengen country, you do not require Schengen visa to go to Latvia.

If you hold a different type of residence permit please submit all needed documents for the visa application.

Citizens of third countries who are residents of Ireland can submit visa application by secure post if only you are not citizen of the country or holder of blue Travel Document who needs to be interviewed. Citizens of the countries on the list have to submit visa application in the Embassy in person.

When the passport is ready for collection residents of Ireland should order a courier, inform Embassy when and which company will collect your passport and send a bill proving that the delivery has been paid.
