TO REGISTER A CHILD AS A CITIZEN OF LATVIA

Procedure takes two steps
1. Registration of a child as a citizen of Latvia – obtaining the identity code.
In order to register a child as a citizen of Latvia one of parents (citizen of Latvia) must present the following documents at the Consular section of the Embassy: - Both parents' passports;
- Full (where both parents' names are written) birth certificate legalised with an Apostille at the Legalisation Office. (The Legalisation Office, address: Norfolk House (West), 437 Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes, MK9 2AH, telephone: 01908 95 111)
- If one of the parents is a citizen of another country - a signed application from this parent with confirmation / agreement that child becomes a citizen of Latvia (the signature shall be approved by Notary public or solicitor and the document should be legalised with an Apostille at the Legalisation Office (The Legalisation Office, address: Norfolk House (West), 437 Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes, MK9 2AH, telephone: 01908 95 111).
After the registration, in approximately 4 weeks the identity code is granted to the child.
Only one parent - Citizen of Latvia - can come to the Embassy.
2. After identity code is granted
After identity code is granted, you can apply for either for full passport or for Emergency Travel document for a child.
In order to apply for a passport, presence of one parent with a passport and presence of a child at the Embassy is required. You should submit 2 good quality passport-size (3.5 x 4.5 cm) photographs of a child and payment for a passport - £ 37. It takes 6 weeks to process the passport. If you wish to receive new passport back by post, you should submit prepaid and self-addressed Special Delivery envelope (you can obtain it at the Post Office).
In order to apply for Emergency Travel document, presence of one parent with a passport and presence of a child at the Embassy is required. You should submit 2 good quality passport-size (3.5 x 4.5 cm) photographs of a child and payment for a document - £ 6. We practice to issue Emergency Travel document at the same day, if it is possible. Maximum validity of Emergency Travel document is 30 days and it is valid only for return to Latvia.

Reception hours every business day (normally Monday to Friday) from 10.00am until 1.00pm.
Before coming to the Embassy to register a child, please call us in due time in order to inform us about the day and time of arrival.
