Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, Miguel Angel Moratinos, to visit Latvia [02 May 2005]

On 3 and 4 May 2005, Spain's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miguel Angel Moratinos, is arriving on an official visit to Latvia. This will be the 2nd official visit of Spain's Foreign Minister to Latvia in the history of relations between the two countries.

During the visit, Spain's Minister for Foreign Affairs is scheduled to meet with the President of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the Prime Minister, Aigars Kalvitis, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Artis Pabriks.

Spain's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miguel Angel Moratinos plans to lay flowers at the Monument of Freedom and to visit the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia together with Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Artis Pabriks.

The agenda of the visit includes discussions on such current EU issues as the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe, EU Financial Perspective, the Lisbon Strategy, and the EU-Russia and Latvia-Russia relations. Latvia is interested in getting acquainted and taking over Spain's extensive experience in the Latin American Region.

On May 3, a joint press conference of Latvia's Foreign Minister, Artis Pabriks, and Spain's Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos will be held at the Blackheads House in Riga.
