Baltic Sea State officials to deliberate on future of region and CBSS reform [03 Jun 2008]

On 4 June, the working session of the 7th Baltic Sea States Summit will be held, the agenda of which will include issues of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) reform, the future of the region, the accomplishments of the Latvian presidency, and a debate on the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. At the close of the session, the CBSS reform declaration will be adopted and the session's conclusions will be accepted. Read more

Registration of signatures abroad for law "Amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia" to be initiated [07 Mar 2008]

Latvia congratulates the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland on restoration of the Northern Ireland Assembly [08 May 2007]

On 8 May 2007, the Political Director of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Ilgvars Klava, met with the Irish Ambassador to Latvia, Tim Mawe, and the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Latvia, Judith Gardiner, who advised on the resumed operation of the Northern Ireland Assembly. On the 9th Saeima elections procedure abroad [06 Sep 2006]

On 7 October 2006, the 9th Saeima (Latvian parliament) elections will be held. Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with the Central Election Commission has created 53 polling stations abroad. In 38 of the polling stations it will be possible to file applications for voting by post and also to vote in person, and 15 polling stations will be open on the election day itself from 7 am to 10 pm local time. Latvian ministers agree on co-ordination of policy for teaching Latvian history and language abroad [17 Jul 2006]

On 17 July 2006, Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks met with the Minister of Education and Science, Baiba Rivza, and the Special Assignments Minister for Social Integration, Karina Petersone, to call on them to reach joint agreement on supporting the teaching of the Latvian language and history abroad. The meeting was held at the initiative of the Foreign Minister, and was also attended by the Chairman of the Board of the World Federation of Free Latvians, Janis Kukainis. Read more

President of Ireland meets with representatives of Latvian community [29 May 2006]

On 26 May 2006, at the residence of the Latvian Ambassador to Ireland, Indulis Abelis, the Irish President Mary McAleese met with representatives of the local Latvian community. In her address, the Irish President welcomed the Latvians and thanked them for their contribution to the development of Ireland and expressed a high appreciation of their knowledge and skills. President Mary McAleese expressed the hope that Ireland would be a place where Latvians would feel good and welcome. Read more

Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks expresses gratitude to Irish people for supporting Latvian accident victims' families [10 Apr 2006]

On 10 April 2006, in Luxembourg, Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks presented a letter of gratitude to the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern T.D., for the support rendered to the families of Latvian victims of accidents in Ireland. One of the most tragic cases was a car accident on 18 February, which took the lives of four Latvian citizens. Read more

Latvia's Foreign Minister calls on residents of Latvia to comply with laws of host countries while travelling [27 Feb 2006]

The Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks has called on the residents of Latvia who visit Ireland or other countries, to comply with the laws of that particular country, as legal offences committed by these people compromise our country's image and give a negative impression of its residents, including those who visit foreign countries for benevolent purposes. Latvia's Foreign Ministry to hold conference "Does Latvia Follow Ireland's Path: Migration of Workforce" [16 Jan 2006]

On 20 January the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a conference at the hotel Bergs on the topic "Does Latvia Follow Ireland's Path: Migration of Workforce". The purpose of the conference is to assess both Latvia's and Ireland's experience in the field of workforce migration. Read more
