Declaration Signed on Cooperation in Communications During the Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On 24 October, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrejs Pildegovičs, signed a Declaration with the Representation of the European Commission in Latvia and the European Parliament Information Office in Latvia on cooperation in the communication of the European Union matters during the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs Encourages Turkey to Proceed with Reforms Related to EU Integration

On 23 October, in the margins of the official visit to Latvia by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Turkish Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Volkan Bozkir. Edgars Rinkēvičs said that Latvia maintains a successful bilateral dialogue with Turkey and supports Turkey’s integration into the European Union. The new European Commission taking office, which actually coincides with the start of Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, also signals new opportunities in EU relations with Turkey.

Foreign Ministers of Latvia and Turkey Highlight the Importance of the Eastern Partnership and Closer Relations with countries of Central Asia

On 23 October, Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. At the meeting, Foreign Ministre Rinkēvičs emphasised that Latvia and Turkey together face certain challenges in regard to foreign policy  and pointed out that international organisations should seek more effective involvement in the solution of international crises.
