Latvia Congratulates Ukraine on Successful Parliamentary Elections

Latvia congratulates Ukraine on having held successful early Parliamentary elections on 26 October, which, despite difficult conditions in regions of eastern Ukraine and the illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea, were generally in line with internationally accepted election standards. In its preliminary assessment, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) notes that these elections marked an important step in Ukraine's aspirations to consolidate democratic elections in line with its international commitments.

Latvia’s EU Presidency Priorities and Eastern Partnership Discussed in Japan

Between 27 and 31 October, Latvia’s Ambassador-at-Large for Eastern Partnership, Juris Poikāns, is on a working visit to Japan. As part of his visit, Ambassador Poikāns met with the Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Akira Muto, to discuss the priorities of Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and opportunities for cooperation with Japan.

Declaration Signed on Cooperation in Communications During the Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On 24 October, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrejs Pildegovičs, signed a Declaration with the Representation of the European Commission in Latvia and the European Parliament Information Office in Latvia on cooperation in the communication of the European Union matters during the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
